Staying active every day is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Incorporating physical activity into your daily life can improve your long-term health, lower your blood pressure, give you more energy, and help you sleep better.
We all have good intentions to exercise every day but occasionally life gets in the way. Sometimes you won’t be able to fit in a high intensity workout each day but that doesn’t mean you should give up and succumb to the couch.
Here are some tips for staying active every day:
- Leave the car at home – If you live within a few kilometres of work or the shops, ride a bike or walk instead. If you live a bit too far to do so, take public transport and jump off one or two stops early and walk the extra distance.
- Take your dog for a walk – A short walk in the morning or afternoon will make not only you happy but will put a smile on your pooch’s face too! Not to mention that walking with someone else is much more motivating and enjoyable than doing it on your own.
- Go for a walk on your lunch break – Even if it’s a short 10-15 minute walk around the block, it’s better than sitting in the office. Take a few of your work friends with you and make it a daily ritual. It’ll soon be one of your favourite parts of the work day!
- Take the stairs – At work or at the train station, use the stairs instead of the escalators and elevators. This may seem insignificant but doing these little things will definitely help improve your overall fitness if done often and in combination with other forms of exercise.
We hope our tips were helpful and you take if not all, then some, on board. It’s important to recognise that physical activity is only one part of a healthy lifestyle; eating healthy foods and looking after your mental health are just as important.
Remember…sit less, move more! You’ll feel happier and more energised when leading an active lifestyle so get your butt off the couch and take the dog for a walk or go for a jog around the block. Any activity is good activity!
