Did you know that almost 70% of Australian adults don’t exercise enough? Exercise Right Week is coming up soon. It runs from May 21 – 28 and is aimed at inspiring Australians who may be living with or at risk of a chronic health condition to seek support from an exercise expert. Even if this isn’t you, we think the initiative relates to all of us!
Exercise shouldn’t be looked at as a burden or a chore. It should be something to look forward to and it should be fun! There are so many different ways to stay active, from playing tennis or running, to playing a round of golf or mountain biking.
Drew Harrisberg, Exercise Physiologist & Diabetes Educator says; “Why do I exercise? It makes me feel amazing. It’s a free form of medicine that we can happily administer to ourselves”.
We think this statement is awesome! Your fitness and health are things you have almost complete control over so why not do everything in your power to make them a positive aspect of your life!
Need some motivation to get moving? Here are some of our favourite ways to exercise:
- Go for a brisk walk in the morning and/ or afternoon
- Explore on weekends, either on a bike or by foot
- Go to the gym before or after work/uni
- Join a social team in tennis, soccer, hockey etc.
- Swim at a local pool
- Do yoga or pilates in the lounge room
Living an active lifestyle is one of the easiest, yet most important ways to prevent and manage chronic health conditions. You always feel better after you’ve exercised so why not do it often?! Exercise is our friend. Do it well and do it often. Your health will thank you for it!
